The Labour Court recommended that National Irish Bank Limited grant the Irish Bank Officials' Association representation rights for managers, except on personal salaries. The recommendation was signed on 29 January 1999. The Court recommended that the Bank provide the association with general salary information and that performance-related pay remain a matter between each manager and the Bank. In return, the association was to allow automatic membership for managers wishing to join. The association sought collective representation for managers amid concerns about pay and organisational changes. The Bank said existing mechanisms were adequate and offered individual representation in disciplinary matters.
