In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that C & C (Ireland) Limited’s cost-reduction options form the basis of a settlement with the Marine, Port and General Workers’ Union over the dispensing division. The recommendation was dated 25 January 1999. The company said the division had been loss-making and it needed to contract out the dispenser service. The union sought to move the three remaining workers into sales roles at their current salaries. The Court recommended including an option for them to take a three-year merchandising contract at the current merchandiser’s rate, with a similar buyout of lost earnings. It also recommended that they remain eligible to apply for other company jobs and receive equal consideration.
