Labour Court recommends Key Tech Products recognise SIPTU

The Labour Court recommended that Key Tech Products Limited recognise the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) for employees who had joined it. The recommendation was signed on 8 January 1999. The union sought negotiating rights, saying permanent employees had joined and wanted representation on employment matters. Key Tech Products disputed the extent of union membership and said it maintained open communication with staff. It also said customers preferred non-union subcontractors and that the dispute could put prospective contracts and technology partnerships at risk. The Court considered the company’s business environment and customer base, along with commitments made by the union, and recommended recognition for employees in union membership.
