Labour Court rejects £11 weekly pay rise claim for John A Woods maintenance craftsmen

The Labour Court did not recommend a weekly pay rise for maintenance craftsmen at John A Woods Limited. The Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union sought an £11 increase, matching the rise previously received by operators after new machinery was introduced. The Court found no evidence that the new plant had brought the maintenance workers specific extra responsibilities or higher skill requirements. It also noted the company had one grade for all craftworkers. Kevin Duffy signed the recommendation on 29 October 1998.
