The Labour Court recommended that Johnson Brothers Limited’s transport restructuring proposals be accepted, with further discussions about three drivers who said they could not adjust to the new arrangements. The recommendation, dated 13 October 1998, covered 13 drivers. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought severance for the three drivers and raised issues including hours, pay, expenses, clothing, vehicle storage, tracking and sick pay. The company said there would be no redundancies. The Court said the proposals met the agreed aim of protecting the drivers’ existing earning potential and recommended monitoring the new arrangements and reviewing them after 12 months.
