Labour Court recommends talks on £7.39 weekly pay claim

By Cathal Brosnan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Display Contracts Limited and three unions meet to examine whether the company’s existing bonus could offset a claimed £7.39 weekly pay increase for 17 craftworkers and general operatives. The recommendation was signed on 5 August 1998. The Irish National Painters & Decorators Trades Union, the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians, and the Building and Allied Trades Union argued the increase should apply under an earlier recommendation. Display Contracts Limited said it was not party to the agreement behind that increase and that workers already received allowances and bonuses. The Court noted that the company had not been party to the agreement, whose terms addressed entitlement and bonus payments. It recommended that the parties meet to examine the existing bonus, with a view to offsetting the claimed weekly amount.
