Labour Court recommends £1,000 for dismissed Transformation worker

The Labour Court recommended that Transformation pay £1,000 to a worker it found had not been fairly treated when dismissed, in a recommendation dated 27 July 1998. The worker began as a sales assistant working two days a week and temporarily took on the manageress’s role, working four days a week. After asking to return to two days, she was dismissed the day after reporting back from sick leave. Transformation said she was still on probation and could not reduce her working week. Transformation did not attend the hearing but sent written submissions. The Court noted the relatively short period of employment, found the worker had not been fairly treated and recommended compensation for loss of employment and distress.
