Labour Court recommends pension talks at Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club

In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club and the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union begin discussions about a pension plan for two green-keepers. The union had sought equal 5% contributions from the workers and the Club, along with death-in-service cover worth four times annual salary. The parties had previously agreed to examine whether a defined contribution plan was viable, but no discussions had taken place. The Club said it could not meet the financial and administrative costs and that all six full-time workers would have to be covered. The Court recommended that the agreed discussions start without further delay, with the issue able to return to the Court if no agreement was reached. The recommendation was signed on 20 July 1998.
