Labour Court recommends five months’ pay over Wexford chief executive contract

The Labour Court found that Wexford Organisation For Rural Development (W.O.R.D.) acted unfairly in deciding not to extend its chief executive’s contract and recommended compensation equal to five months’ pay. The union said the chief executive had been led to expect an extension until the end of the programme in 1999. The employer said the contract was fixed-term and the post was no longer needed. The Court considered reinstatement unviable and dated its recommendation 30 June 1998.
