The Labour Court recommended that Symantec pay a worker four weeks’ pay and provide an adequate reference after finding she was treated unfairly when her contract was not renewed. The recommendation was dated 19 June 1998. The worker said Symantec gave her no reason for not renewing her contract and had not told her that her production levels were inadequate. Symantec said she had been hired temporarily to meet quarter-end demand, her performance was unsatisfactory and she had refused overtime. The Court said she had no real or adequate opportunity to address the alleged shortcomings or make representations before the decision was taken.
