Labour Court recommends Namco talks on one sick pay scheme

The Labour Court recommended that Namco and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume negotiations on a single sick pay scheme for workers in the company’s two divisions. The recommendation was dated 17 June 1998. The union sought to extend the Video Shop scheme to Woodshop employees, who had no short-term sick pay provision. Namco said the scheme had come to cover uncertified absences and proposed alternatives. The Court said there was an obvious need to harmonise sick leave arrangements and recommended talks on a single scheme having regard to industry norms, with leave-of-absence arrangements dealt with separately.
