In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that Thermo-King Europe Limited apply its incentive scheme across the plant in its first year, then by department from year two. The recommendation was signed on 19 June. The Amalgamated Engineering And Electrical Union sought plant-wide performance measures and a 6.5% increase backdated to 1 January 1997. The company said its scheme capped payments at 4.5% and that it did not intend additional payments for 1997. The Court also recommended presentations to explain the scheme to employees.
