In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that Togher Community Youth Training Workshop and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union meet immediately to finalise an agreement on redundancy terms for five workers. FAS had decided to close the workshop. Management offered statutory redundancy entitlements, while the union sought four weeks’ pay per year of service plus statutory terms. The Court noted that the employer did not dispute the level of compensation claimed and said it was not required to express a view on the claim’s merits. Its recommendation was dated 17 April 1998.
