The Labour Court recommended that Limerick Corporation defer its plans to reorganise the wandering-animal collection service until 1 May 1998. The recommendation was dated 27 February 1998. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union opposed disbanding the crew. The Court said potential earnings losses for workers redeployed elsewhere had not been adequately addressed, and recommended that the parties negotiate arrangements for those losses during the deferral.
