Labour Court recommends pension scheme examination in Boc Gases dispute

In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that Boc Gases examine a worker's case for acceptance into its ill-health pension scheme after a dispute over his dismissal. The recommendation, signed on 20 February 1998, followed a disagreement about his continued absence and eligibility for the scheme. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought an independent medical assessment, while the company said its occupational health consultant found no medical reason for the continued absence. The Court said the impasse arose from a misunderstanding and recommended that the case be examined; either party could appeal the examination outcome.
