In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that five Irish Distillers staff receive plus pay and appropriate arrears under the company-union agreement, unless the parties agreed alternative arrangements. The recommendation, signed on 20 February 1998, addressed plus pay only. The Court said plus pay was a long-standing element of the agreed pay structure and that changes should first be pursued through negotiation. It also recommended that Irish Distillers and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume negotiations on outstanding issues.
