The Labour Court recommended that Acco Ireland Limited increase its redundancy offer to five weeks’ pay per year of service, plus statutory entitlements and pay in lieu of notice, after announcing the closure of its Clonshaugh operation and the loss of all 95 jobs. The recommendation, signed on 10 February 1998, followed a union claim for eight weeks’ pay per year, along with statutory redundancy and notice pay. The company had offered 4.75 weeks per year plus those entitlements. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union argued workers had accepted major changes to their conditions and said the move to the UK was to increase profits. The company cited competition and relocation costs.
