The Labour Court recommended that The Legal Aid Board and Manufacturing, Science, Finance agree on an independent third party and terms of reference to investigate the grading arrangements for grade B solicitors in charge of law centres. The third party would report back to the Court before it made a recommendation on the substantive pay claim. The recommendation was dated 30 January 1998. The union sought the Assistant Principal higher pay scale for the solicitors. The Board disputed the claim and said any payroll increases had to comply with national cost parameters and agreements on flexibility and co-operation with change.
