The Labour Court recommended that Stafford Shipping Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union reopen talks on compensation for workers' potential lost earnings linked to ore handling at New Ross. The Court also recommended early union consultation on future operational changes, acceptance of current Arcon staffing arrangements and acceptance of the arrangements for a community project at the Ross Company. The parties should base renewed negotiations on a lump-sum formula on projected diverted cargo volumes. The recommendation was dated 27 January 1998.
