In 1998, the Labour Court found that a worker was unfairly dismissed by St. Oliver Plunkett Primary School and recommended £2,500 compensation, in addition to payments in lieu of notice already received. The worker said she was dismissed without warnings or an explanation. The school said she had been employed on weekly non-renewable contracts and given opportunities to improve her performance. The Court found the procedures inadequate: she had not been adequately advised of the allegations or given a fair chance to respond. It also recommended that she be exonerated from allegations of serious misconduct. The recommendation was dated 27 January 1998.
