In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that Jury's Hotel And Towers and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume negotiations on bar staffing and other outstanding matters. The recommendation was dated 8 January 1998. The union sought a return to staffing levels in a 1988 agreement or, alternatively, commission payments and improved basic pay for commis staff. Management said staffing was adequate for current business and cited sales growth that had lagged behind wage increases. The Court recommended that negotiations address bar staffing needs in light of business requirements and the workload of existing staff.
