The Labour Court recommended that Goulds Pumps Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union meet immediately to agree terms for a proposed redundancy in the Accounts Section. Its recommendation was signed on 28 November 1997. Goulds Pumps said a new computerised system meant the two-person department could be run by one person. The union disputed the need for a redundancy and proposed job-sharing as an alternative. The Court found there was a need for rationalisation and said the dispute could return to it if the parties failed to agree.
