Labour Court asks Alucolor and union to negotiate Roland 700 staffing

In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that Alucolor Limited and the Graphical Paper & Media Union examine the company’s proposals and negotiate appropriate staffing levels for its Roland 700 press. Alucolor sought to reduce staffing from two printers and one helper to one printer and one helper, saying modern presses were designed for one printer and lower staffing was needed to compete. The union warned of risks to jobs and safe operation. The recommendation was signed on 9 October 1997.
