The Labour Court recommended that the National Rehabilitation Board grade eight regional managers at Assistant Principal Officer level, with the corresponding pay scale and annual leave entitlement. The recommendation was signed on 6 October 1997. The Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union had sought a higher grade, arguing that the managers’ responsibilities had expanded. The Board said it could not approve a pay increase without Department of Finance sanction. The Court said the changes had effectively created new positions and that the grade and salary should have been agreed when those changes were considered.
