Labour Court recommends unions operate Showerings machinery at proper speed

The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union agree to operate Showerings’ new Line 1 machinery at the proper speed. The recommendation was signed on 1 October 1997. The unions had sought compensation, saying a new bottle washer would increase production by a third and had been introduced without proper discussion or agreement. Showerings said the changes placed no extra demands on workers. The Court considered the company’s position reasonable in light of past practice and recommended a joint assessment after three months if the unions still wanted one.
