In 1997, the Labour Court recommended severance terms for employees of Klopman International Limited after the company announced the closure of its Tralee plant. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought enhanced redundancy terms, a year-end bonus and other payments; the company said it could not meet the full claim. The Court recommended four weeks' pay per service year plus statutory entitlement, one notional service year for severance calculations, the 1997 bonus, five carding-room upgrades, an additional £1,000 lump sum and life-assurance cover through 30 April 1999. It said the union's full claim could not be met. The recommendation was signed on 24 September 1997.
