In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that Carlow Regional Technical College place a worker in its Department of Applied Biology and Chemistry on the Technician scale from 1 January 1997. The recommendation was signed on 16 September 1997. The Court found the worker had been incorrectly graded at Craft Assistant level and noted that his work was similar to that of technicians. The College accepted that he had the minimum qualifications and performed similar work, but said national negotiations were under way on upgrading craft assistants.
