In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that Kiely's Bakery apply the severance terms used in 1990 for workers made redundant after the company announced it would close. The recommendation was signed on 15 September 1997. The Court also recommended applying the 4% first-phase PESP increase to gross earnings when calculating redundancy terms. It did not recommend concession of the 39-hour-week claim or compensation for six-day working. The dispute also concerned compensation for two maintenance workers and involved the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union.
