In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that United Parcel Service Of Ireland (Ups) agree with a worker on a fair distribution of overtime, discuss the applicable overtime rate and address any keyboard-skill deficiencies. The recommendation was signed on 15 September 1997. The Communications Workers' Union said the worker had not been offered overtime for about three years because of his pay rate. UPS said he lacked the data-entry skills needed for the work. The Court found no valid reason to exclude him, particularly given that overtime was occasional.
