In 1997, the Labour Court recommended against a claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for £8,113 in lost income for a former Aer Lingus worker. The Court said the company had treated the claimant fairly. The union said he had been refused an extension to his retirement date, costing him income and exposing him to a 12% clawback on his severance lump sum. Aer Lingus said its voluntary scheme allowed him to opt out and that there was no operational need to retain him. The recommendation was signed on 8 August 1997.
