In 1997, the Labour Court recommended against the Manufacturing, Science, Finance claim to upgrade six Dataproducts (Dublin) technicians to senior technician status. The recommendation was signed on 8 August 1997. The union said the technicians' duties had expanded and they were equally competent to perform the same work. The company disputed that their roles had changed enough to justify promotion and cited financial difficulties and the cost. The Court also recommended that the parties discuss grading issues when the company's financial position improved.
