The Labour Court said Abs Pumps’ sick pay scheme met commitments under national agreements in a dispute involving 250 shop-floor workers represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. Its recommendation was dated 29 July 1997.
The workers sought a scheme like the one for administrative grades, without waiting days or a clawback. Abs Pumps proposed waiting days and a phased introduction, alongside changes to washing-up periods. The Court recommended that the parties address the related World Class Manufacturing issues in their discussions.
