In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that workers at Woco Industrial Components Limited accept multi-machine operation, complete training and implement the system plant-wide on 1 September. Its recommendation was dated 15 July 1997. The dispute followed the suspension without pay of three workers who refused multi-machine training. The Court recommended negotiations on the system’s terms and conditions. Subject to acceptance of its recommendations, it said the suspended workers should be reinstated without loss of pay and references to the matter removed from their records. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the company had advanced opposing positions on the proposed system.
