In 1997, the Labour Court recommended higher mobility payments for Coillte workers who travelled to work, after the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought increased allowances and mileage bands. Coillte argued that it needed to control labour costs. The recommended daily rates ranged from £1.25 for 0–8 miles to £9.50 for 30–40 miles; workers travelling 40 miles or more were to receive industrial mileage and overnight subsistence. The rates were to apply from 1 January 1997. The recommendation was dated 29 May 1997.
