The Labour Court found that an agreement between Tara Meats (Dublin) Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union did not prevent boning and trimming employees from being required to work extended periods at the agreed piece rates. The recommendation was signed on 12 May 1997. The union argued that the 1995 agreement meant the workers would not be required to work overtime. The Court found ambiguity in the wording and recommended using contract employees in the short term, then putting permanent employees in place to meet the normal daily workload.
