In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that all instructors employed by the Galway Association For The Mentally Handicapped receive 30 days' annual leave, in a dispute concerning three instructors. The union said reducing leave to 25 days for new recruits broke an earlier understanding; the association said recruits accepted contracts specifying 25 days while existing staff retained 30. The Court found the proposed change had not been handled satisfactorily and recommended that any further change be discussed with the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union through normal industrial relations procedures. The recommendation was signed on 27 March 1997.
