Labour Court recommends £15,000 for Thermo King workers after weekend shift losses

In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that Thermo King Europe Limited pay £15,000 to the Amalgamated Engineering And Electrical Union for distribution among employees considered to have suffered earnings losses after a weekend shift was introduced. The recommendation was signed on 11 March 1997. The union said the shift had contributed to falling earnings, while the company pointed to unusually high overtime in 1994 and other reasons for the reduction. The Court found that some loss had resulted from the shift but said it would be difficult to apportion, given previous access to weekend overtime and excessive 1994 earnings.
