The Labour Court recommended that Irish Ferries and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union begin productivity discussions immediately and complete them within three months over the union’s salary increase claim. The recommendation was signed on 6 March 1997. The union sought higher pay, a 3% increase, a bonus or share options scheme, and 16 additional officers for a new ferry. On manning, the Court recommended that surplus officers continue to be used on the two ships for as long as they remained employed.
