Labour Court records agreement on union recognition at Finlays

By Eimear Byrne

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recorded that Finlays of Ardee Limited would recognise the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union if it showed that a majority of employees were members. The recommendation was signed on 3 March 1997. The union sought recognition and negotiating rights for members in the company’s manufacturing area. Finlays had refused to meet the union, but told the Court it would recognise it if majority membership was established. The union said it could provide that evidence. The Court recorded the parties’ agreement that, once the membership information was produced, the company would recognise the union.
