In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that Southern Health Board (St Finbarr's Hospital) arrange a suitable permanent position for a worker it found had been unreasonably treated in a vacancy process. The recommendation was dated 28 February. The dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union concerned the filling of a kitchen vacancy in St. James's Ward and the duties attached to the post. The Court found that no formal procedures had been followed to fill the vacancy. It also recommended that the parties agree a job description and procedures for advertising and filling vacancies.
