In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that Avonmore Foods PLC and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union adopt a payment by results system for the company’s in-house transport operation. The recommendation, signed on 3 March 1997, followed a dispute over a proposal to contract out the operation and redundancy terms. The Court recommended that the new system begin on 1 September 1997, with current payment systems continuing until then, and that the earnings guarantee be increased from one year to two. It also recommended raising the maximum redundancy figure from £35,000 to £50,000. The parties could discuss individual privatisation if they wished.
