The Labour Court recommended that Potato Cuisine Limited should not recognise the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union at that time, following a union-recognition dispute with the company. The recommendation was dated 29 January 1997. Potato Cuisine said it already recognised SIPTU and was too small to accommodate two unions. The union said production workers had joined it and wanted to remain members. The Court recommended that the union first seek to reconcile the position with SIPTU and, if that failed, that the unions use trade union procedures.
