The Labour Court recommended no changes to the existing merit money payment system at Alucolour Limited, after the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought equal treatment for 12 journeypersons. The union said the journeypersons received £26 a week after six and a half years’ service, while other workers could receive £50 a week within six or 12 months. Alucolour said merit payments were discretionary. The recommendation was signed on 17 January 1997.
