The Labour Court recommended that Greencore Group PLC review its pay offer under a proposed grading structure and make a new proposal. The dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union concerned rates for a structure covering about 400 workers and seasonal staff. The union sought a higher top rate and retention of an 84% relationship between the bottom and top grades. The Court said it could not identify appropriate rates without a detailed study, but found the current offer insufficient. It recommended that the union discuss the company’s proposal for a new payment system, including annualised hours. The recommendation was signed on 16 January 1997.
