The Labour Court recommended that Tytex Ireland Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union meet to discuss a quid pro quo for implementing a pay provision under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress, once grants sought by the company were sanctioned. The union sought a 3% pay increase for about 85 members at the Youghal health care products plant. Tytex said market pressures meant it could not afford an increase beyond existing programme adjustments. The recommendation was signed on 14 January 1997.
