In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that Kylemore Bakery Limited recognise The Bakery And Food Workers' Amalgamated Union’s right to represent its members at the company. The union said 51 workers had joined and it had been unable to arrange a meeting with the company. Kylemore Bakery said most employees had shown no interest in joining and pointed to its staff meetings and existing benefits. The company operates 32 shops and employs about 180 people.
