The Labour Court recommended compensation equal to one year’s annual loss for a Bus Eireann worker whose rest day changed from Sunday to Saturday. The recommendation was signed on 4 October 1996. The worker said he had worked every second Sunday as compulsory rostered overtime and lost two and a half days’ pay per fortnight when his rest day changed. Bus Eireann said any loss resulted from implementing departmental instructions on driving hours. The Court said national negotiations had not resolved the matter and took account of the worker’s specific contract and work schedule in recommending compensation as a full and final settlement.
