The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept University College Hospital Galway's plan to contract out patient catering, subject to the hospital not extending contracting out to other services provided by existing employees before autumn 1999. The recommendation was dated 30 August 1996. The Court recommended that permanent and temporary staff who wished to transfer be seconded to the contractor on their existing employment conditions. It also recommended training, extra leave for the 1996/97 and 1997/98 leave years, and eligibility for staff with at least one year's service to compete for an agreed number of posts advertised internally. The Court said it could not find a basis for recommending compensation.
