In 1996, the Labour Court recommended a one-off £450 payment to employees affected by proposed security changes at the Central Bank Of Ireland’s Currency Centre. The recommendation was dated 26 July 1996. The Bank’s proposals involved changes to access, parking and CCTV at the Sandyford centre, affecting 200 employees. The Dublin Printing Group Of Unions sought compensation and said the £300 payment accepted by the Bank during discussions was inadequate. A majority of the unions rejected the proposals that included that amount. The Court recommended that changes needed to address immediate risks could be made followed by discussions, while other changes should involve prior consultation and negotiations. It also recommended that the Bank monitor the entrance and add another entry point if necessary.
