The Labour Court found that Regional Technical College Carlow (Carlow RTC) had treated a worker unfairly over the appointment process for its librarian post and recommended that the post be re-advertised. The recommendation was dated 29 July 1996. The worker, represented by the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union, had applied for the post but was not shortlisted. The College said she was an assistant librarian, and that the open competition followed Department of Education guidelines. The Court cited the College’s failure to provide requested correspondence with the Department.
